IN MEMORY OF NICHOLAS KATRIS | 18/08/1941 - 27/06/2026

With deep sadness, and immense love, we honour and celebrate the life of Nick, beloved husband and father.

Nick lived a life defined by curiosity, purpose, creativity, and service. He approached every chapter of life with energy, discipline, and enthusiasm, leaving a lasting impact on his family, profession, and community.

Born in Egypt to a Greek family, Nick migrated to Australia as a young boy during a time of political turmoil. Carrying with him a strong sense of Greek heritage, culture, and values, he built a remarkable life grounded in resilience, hard work, and a deep commitment to community.

An accomplished architect and designer, Nick studied Architecture and Interior Design at RMIT University and went on to enjoy a distinguished career spanning more than 50 years. Over that time, he completed more than 2,700 projects across Australia and internationally, including work in Greece and China. His contribution to the profession was recognised when he became a Fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects.

Nick was also a passionate educator, teaching Building Design and Architectural Interior Design to countless students over many years. He found great joy in mentoring others and generously sharing his knowledge, wisdom, and experience.

Beyond architecture, Nick was deeply creative. Painting and drawing were lifelong passions, and in retirement he found immense joy in teaching life drawing, inspiring others to see beauty, form, and detail through an artist’s eye.

His adventurous spirit led him to pursue many interests, including flying, where he earned a private pilot licence, and athletics, where he embraced running, walking, squash, and waterskiing with determination and joy.

Community service was central to Nick’s life. From his early years in the Scouting movement to decades of leadership within Greek and wider community organisations, he gave generously of his time, skills, and compassion. He served in numerous leadership and board roles, including as President of Pronia, and was honoured with multiple life memberships and the Centenary Medal for his service to the Australian community.

Above all, Nick was devoted to his family. He and Mum, Voula, built a beautiful life together and raised two children, Evangeline & George. He was a devoted husband, a cherished father, and a much-loved grandfather of Rebecca & Cooper and Stefan & Alex.

Some of our most treasured memories are the simple moments we shared together—especially our summer holidays at Lake Eildon, filled with laughter, sunshine, waterskiing, and precious family time.

Nick will be remembered for his intelligence, generosity, leadership, creativity, quiet strength, and unwavering commitment to helping others. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the communities he strengthened, and the values he instilled in all of us.

After a short but courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, Nick passed away surrounded by love.

During this difficult time, the care, compassion, and dignity shown by the medical teams at Epworth meant so much to our family, and we are deeply grateful.
