We're walking for kids to end paediatric allergies...
We are walking to support the Centre for Paediatric Allergies at Epworth in finding new and innovative ways to treat and care for infants and children with paediatric allergies, with the ultimate aim of finding a cure.
In Australia, food allergy is common and estimated to affect around 1 in 10 babies, 1 in 20 teens and 1 in 50 adults. Hospital presentations for anaphylaxis have increased for all age groups in the past 30 years with food being the major cause of anaphylaxis in the 0-4 age group.
As a committee member of the Australian Food Allergy Foundation, this September we are embarking on a fully self-funded walk to raise funds and awareness for Paediatric Allergies. Research is ongoing and each step brings us closer to finding a cure. Funds raised go directly to ensuring that the Paediatric Allergy Fellowship continues in its research to improve outcomes for children living with allergies. This cause feels particularly close to our hearts having watched our close friends over many years have a child with allergies to eggs, milk, fish and various nuts. The effect on their lives inspired us to start a walk years ago (Walk for Kids with Allergies) so that we could raise funds and awareness through the community and schools….the fear in their eyes each time they are surrounded by food is heartbreaking and we have a responsibility to ensure that no child loses their life because of not knowing what is in their food!

It is for the many people who live with allergies that have inspired us to walk. With your generosity, all funds raised will ensure that the Centre for Paediatric Allergies at Epworth can continue their Research and ultimately find a cure so that the dreams of many children suffering with allergies will be realised!
