I'm joining the army to walk for kids with allergies
I have good news and bad news. The good news is that my daughter is getting married - yay! The bad news is her fiancé, Troy has a food allergy. Troy has lived with this concern all of his life, whereas we are just beginning to learn about how important it is that he never lets cashews or traces of cashews touch his mouth. Once my daughter ordered a pizza with pesto sauce. #Never Again! Troy started to have an anaphylactic reaction and needed immediate medical attention. Troy is just one of many who has a food allergy and alerts his friends, family and hospitality staff whenever he has a meal so that he is not put in danger. For those with food allergies, it's a way of life. Forever checking the ingredients on packets before eating. In fact food allergy affects around 10% of infants, 4-8% of children and about 2% of adults in Australia and New Zealand. The Centre for Paediatric Allergies at Epworth is making a real difference in this area. Undertaking ground-breaking research to help make life for these kids manageable. I want to support them in their efforts. That's why I am supporting this important charity challenge. Although I'm not walking the Tuscany Camino, I will be walking the Tan on Sunday 7 July to raise awareness of paediatric allergies and raise funds in support of this centre of excellence at Epworth. Please help by donating in support of my walk. Your tax-deductible donation is greatly appreciated and will make a real difference for kids with allergies in future. With thanks in anticipation.
