In Memory of Frank Cicutto

Frank Cicutto – a good life to be celebrated

Frank Cicutto was an extremely dedicated family man, enormously successful businessman, high grade cricketer and generous philanthropist.

Born in the northern Italian town of Spilimbergo, in 1950 he moved to the inner west of Sydney with his family at age 2. Frank never forgot his northern Italian roots, and his parents hard working ethos in their newly adopted country certainly rubbed off.

Frank studied hard at school and began his working life at age 17, initially as a bank teller. The bank offered promotion and the opportunity for assistance in gaining a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales, which he achieved after work hours via night classes.

Frank pursued his love of cricket by playing Sydney Grade Cricket for Bankstown as an opening batsman, facing the likes of teammate Len Pascoe in the nets and Jeff Thomson and Andy Roberts when playing on the weekend. He never lost his love for cricket, nor his connection with his teammates (including Olympic swimming legend Ian Thorpes father) and he was blessed to be visited by some of his old mates prior to his recent passing. Undoubtedly his greatest partnership was with his beloved wife Chris, with whom he built a wonderful family life including his son, Andrew, and recent grandchildren.

Frank’s was the classic story of rising to the top from the bottom, 32 years after starting as a bank teller, and after many moves with the bank including time in New York and the United Kingdom, Frank became the CEO of the National Australia Bank in 1999, a role he held for 5 years.

A humble, kind, witty and extremely generous man, Frank was a true community citizen, always conscious of ensuring that he and his family gave back.

Frank was extremely popular and likeable, and his support to the Epworth amongst other medical facilities is set to continue as his family welcomes any additional support that can be offered.

All gifts will go towards the E.J Whitten Prostate Cancer Research Centre at Epworth, to help develop and implement innovative prostate cancer treatments.

Thank you for your kindness

It was a tremendous privilege to have worked closely with Frank and to have learnt so much from him over many years. He was energetic and demanding yet private, never compromising his values. He took immense pride in his family and Italian heritage and spoke of both often. As C.S. Lewis once stated, “Hardship often prepares ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny.” Farewell, Frank. My sincere condolences to Christine and Andrew. Paul Fegan
